Black for Good...

Hey (imaginery) folks, I survived the christmas-terror and the celebration of the new year. In fact I really enjoyed New Year's Eve. First lesson: Spontanaeus decisions are still the better ones. Second: Despite possession and disgust for most human beings never underestimate the power of an interpersonal (lovely) moment.

Back to music: I took a break from the swedish industries and got back into some Black Metal. At the moment I torture myself with the new release of the finnish cult act Horna. "Ääniä Yössä" is simply outstanding! Normally I hate minimalistic metal-acts. Sure BM (in the traditional sense) never was about sophisticated playing techniques and progressive songwriting. But in my ears most bands are not able to handle the hypnotic minimalism of tremolo-picking.

The opening track of the new Horna-cd is a perfect example for this. A 10-min-song with only three riffs. Horna always created their special atmosphere (count out the weak "Sudentaival"-release), but this seems to be their peak.
Visit the horde at Myspace (www.myspace.com/thetruehorna) and listen to a few minutes of "Raiskattu Saastaisessa Valossa".

...ok, you are back. Still in a good mood? Well than lean back and think about what I have to say:

Children can be described as inculpable humans. A child does not know how to act in a ethical way because it is far beyond the physical desires and mental drives of an adult. "Morality", the rule of social life, has no meaning. Therefore you can't describe a child malignant or guilty.

A lot of children die because of cerevral tumour. Well, in fact there are several reasons for an early death. Most young people in the world may suffer death from starving. But this is a political and social problem. Unlike cancer: Neither political action nor social engagement are able to protect you from this disease. In this connection I use the term "cancer" as the key to my conclusion of a well-defined philosophy.

As we know that children are innocent (inculpable) and that they die because of cancer one must conclude that it is impossible to believe in the existence of a fair-minded, metaphysical entity. I believe in fatalism. And thats the only thing i want to believe. The world's incidents are arranged by fate. Fate is an abstract term. But why should we qualify what MAY stand behind these letters. We will never see the ultimate truth, we will never write about the origin of the light at the end of the tunnel and never ever will we shake hands with the angels.

The only question left is: If my live is ruled by an indefinable and value-free abstraction why should I care about any social dogmas? Why should I care about law? Because a legal system may also be useful for my own life? Maybe...but what will happen when I decide one day that to challenge fate is less lunatic than to wait for the big fist...
Forget Buddah, God or John Lennon and never trust in theodicy. Every thinking individual should eliminate the idea of a transcedent justice and face fate as the ultimate threat of a rational live.
Rationality is an illusion!

Invisible nightmares

Internet is the gate to a new digital world of no limits. An ocean of information, where the main challenge is not to perish, not to get lost in this flow of impulses.
Right now I am struggeling. Sounds of never-heared deepness are sourrounding my soul and its fleshly shell. 2,42 MB, 6:03 Minutes. Not able to be touched. Invisible, unreal but amazingly beautiful and affecting.

The track I am refering to is called "The sweet hereafter" by a swedish ambient-project called Disiderii Marginis. Its a quite, cheerless and highly thrilling piece of audio-art. A journy through gloomy landscapes as well as noizy industrial facilities. So unreal that it makes me doubt about everything that we may call "the earthly dogmas". Its a musical embrace I am not able to reject although not only love and endearment are waiting for me.

In the foreground we have a piano with an unbelievable mournful meldoy, representing the leitmotiv. At the same time an alien screechy tone disturbs the ruminant mood. You have to stand the noise if you want to reach the beauty.
It seems like the sounds have a life of their own. It seems that these unequal tones are aiming at a higher form of harmony (In this context one my think about the chinese concept of Yin and Yang). After some time you start to realize this ambition. You start to accept the timeless and wonderful piano as well as the deathlike, cold and frightening industrial-sound. The dance of both is surrounded by a speheric, unobstrusive keyboard making you believe to be prepared for death.

I haven't been so deeply moved by music since I have listened the first time to Elends "The Umbersun". Maybe I should not travel too far, but otherwise these thoughts are needless as I know I have to. Moving straight to a new nightmare, pressing the flesh of the invisible hand called Disiderii Marginis.

Thank you Johan Levin.

YouTube will be a revolution of the human mind

I wasted again some precious time on youtube.com.
For me this site is not only a gash in the history of multimedia and the development of the internet in general. Long-dated it will change the way of thinking, the way of interpreting the world. It will be a revolution of the human mind. With YouTube the german term "selektive Wahrnehmung" (which is a term of the communication science meaning "selective cognition") gets a new acception. As a consument of media you are no longer regulated by the etablished mass-media-enterprises and TV-stations. It is possible (when you register yourself and confirme that you are able to stand "abnormal" pictures) to watch movies of iraki extremists constructing mines, placing them on some bridge and let them detonate when an american convoy is passing. In the background one can hear some arabic sounds and listen to a lot of propaganda. Get the documentary "Code of silence" made by the iraqi resistance and you know what i am talking about.
The influences from our environment are getting more progressive. Ten years ago I would have never been able to whatch islamic terror-propaganda in such an easy way. You are able to catch any form of information and any interpretation of it. Is that positive? Is this leading to a higher level of individual freedom?
First you have to say: sure! In a world (mass-) communication is getting more importent (and diverting!) its getting harder for the media to manipulate us and easier for us to find the access to an established truth.
Otherwise this massive flow of information (and ability how to get it) could also lead to a furthermore shattering of the world. There will be no more room for dualism (like "good" and "evil", "truth" or "lie"). This could lead to a new era of mental insecurity. Think of the industrialisation of western europe. On the paper this development meant more freedom for the crowd(after blasting the chains of absolutism). But reality of the working man was even worse than before.
I compare this "materialistic" shattering of industrialisation with the upcoming of youtube.com (and future, similar electronic platforms) and its insubstantial modification and shattering of the human mind which will lead to a higher level of disorientation.

First round goes to maschinenzimmer 412.

Couldn't stand the pain for more than 30 minutes. I choosed the folkstorm vs mz 412 live battle. An audio-ritual which took place in some kind of a bin. Although the music was not much more for me than pure cacophony i still feel myself tightened by this stuff. As one can read on the cold meat industry-website (CMI is the worlds leading label of true harsh industrial) this music is about exploring someone elses nightmare. I haven't found my nightmare yet.

Interesting is the emotional sadness that takes place when you got your brain washed some time in the acid-like soundscapes of the brutal mz-sound and then you switch over to some classic like preisner, or even better, you start listening to Elend ("Winds devouring men"). The disgust of the one is the beauty of the other. It's like drinking brown tequila and than get the fresh, chilling taste of orange.

Omnon and a thrilling day

Heaven got gloomy when I left University last Saturday and I was excited about the soft rain and the clouds, which seem to swallow the whole city. It was this kind of day you think "no matter what happens, this will be just great".
I felt a need for new music and went to the "musikexpress", a second-hand store with books and a lot vinyl and cds. The holder is a very strange guy. Always listening to psychotic musique concrète-stuff and traditionel industrial. I was always wondering how "normal" people are able to stand this torture.
First I grabbed some avantgarde-metal-stuff like korovakill`s "Waterhells", but got bored very soon. I started a discussion with him about my new ambitions and he gave me gerome nox "blood-red poppies" and a project called "Omnon" (2CD). I got into gerome nox very soon. Harsh, dark Industrial with tramping beats, some guitars (which helped me to get into it) and voice-samples. Its a concept about mass-murder and the evil in man in general. Nothing new, but it sounds great.
"Omnon" thrilled me from the very first second. Nerver heared, gloomy and alien soundscapes. It isnt that noise-like, brutal stuff where your ears start to bleed after some time (like maschinenzimmer 412). Omnon is very quite. Like a small stream running trough your ears it infiltrates the soul and evokes this kind of "metaphysical" mude i love so much. To talk in pictures: Omnon is the soundtrack Kubrick should have used for his monolith-sequence in "space odyssey". The man behind "purpose" and "blackeye" (which are the titles of the package) is called Ingo Lindmeier. Its limited to 500 copies.
I bought both albums and even the korovakill (which is a great album too)
For now i want to close. Will try some Maschinenzimmer 412. More in the coming days.

A new journey

This is the start of a new journey and i broke up to discover underground audio-art even darker and thrilling than the burned out Black Metal-genre. Black Metal lost its once celestial aura. Therefore i am searching new paths. The blog will be bilingual and altough Industrial and Black Metal shall be the focus, i will not only write about music but also other themes.
